Working on Your Self-Esteem is Key to Improve Your Sense of Well-Being | Study on American Women's Quality of Life Shows

quality of life and self esteem in American women

well being and self esteem in American women

what women would change about themselves

Improving self-esteem and having a positive effect in general well-being is very achievable, according to this quality of life study.

'Troubles' for women with positive self esteem are more diverse. Weight is considerably the most delicate issue for those with self-esteem issues, followed by anxiety and depression.”

— Holistics – Insight the Culture

MIAMI, FLORIDA, UNITED STATES, May 31, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — Quality of life is a complex topic and is treated in many spheres as a science in itself. Academics have studied it from different disciplinary approaches to help policy makers and marketers innovate and improve services, products and spaces to affect positively the quality of life of citizens.

One of the main insights about quality of life is that its understanding is composed by an objective, exogenous level (environmental) and by a subjective, endogenous (personal) level of perception about the environment. Which basically means that your perception about yourself, your life and your surroundings affects your quality of life in general. For example, people who live in the same house have been found to experience different perceptions about their quality of life based on their subjective appreciations.

This study dived into what American women are thinking, doing, what they eat, who they admire and what they associate with good quality of life. One of the most important concepts covered during the study is self-esteem. Here are a few findings that can bring light into ways to improve your notion of well-being:

What you can do

Walking is the activity that most American women relate to feeling good about themselves, followed by reading, working and spending time with their family. Walking is deeply related with dogs, being outdoors and doing exercise in general. Reading books in print and digitally also makes women perceive a better quality of life. Working is also high on the list and includes not only nine-to-fives but also entrepreneurship and volunteering in different social organizations and non-profits.

What you can get

Books, phones and computers are some of the most cherished items women refer to when asking about their quality of life. This of course has to do with access to information and nurturing the mind, as well as staying connected with friends, family and like-minded individuals and groups. Women find great quality of life in reading, which they can do with any of these preferred items.

A second set of things were associated directly to their quality of life and well-being that have to do with their outward experiencing of social life and how they are able to express themselves in social settings. One of the concepts used to refer to this kind of items was self-care. Some of these items are products for the hair and skin, clothes, shoes, makeup and jewelry. The importance of such items lies in their effect on identity, expression and confidence, as the surveyed women shared in this study.

Who and what to follow

Michelle Obama, Ellen Degeneres and Oprah are the most frequently admired public figures. The topics that were associated the most with good quality of life were in the order of positive thinking, self-help content and parenting tips. Also family values and home decor content were associated with general well-being.

Self-Esteem and Well-Being

When asked about their general well-being and quality of life on a scale of one to five, the average score was 3.67 and the median was 4, which amounted to a little over 38%. Twenty percent scored their well-being with a solid 5 while a bit over 2% scored a 1 and 7% a 2. That’s nearly 10% with a negative perception of their quality of life, in general, while 31% scored a 3. The remaining 59% have a positive outlook.

Interestingly, when asked to rate their self-esteem the average score was close but a little lower at 3.4. It can be said that it is relatively easier for women to rate their general quality of life and well-being slightly better than their self-esteem. Only 12% of the sample rated themselves as empowered, while most rated themselves as having a positive self-esteem and 27% as average. Nearly 20%, double the general quality of life rating, rated themselves having a low self-esteem.

Investing in self-esteem may improve the perception of quality of life

What is interesting about these findings is that amongst those women with higher self-esteem, the score for the general well-being goes above 4, while amongst the women with lower self-esteem their quality of life goes straight to the 2’s.

The key insight is to understand that everyone has the power to work on his or her self-esteem, and doing so involves acquiring relatively simple habits that might have a positive effect both in the self-esteem and in the holistic sense of well-being and quality of life.

Taking up walking and reading, increasing the time spent working, volunteering and with family, switching to health eating with a controlled dose of indulgence and investing time and resources in feeling more confident in social settings are bound to have a positive effect in the self-esteem and in the quality of life, as perceived and lived.

In a May, 2018 survey, Holistics International, an independent media research firm that focuses on Business Culture and Quality of Life, aimed to learn about how they understand and define their well-being in today's America. Sample Size: 521 complete responses (95% confidence level +-4% error).

Can You Trademark a Hashtag? Philadelphia-Based IP Lawyer Weighs In

Trademark & IP Attorneys

Intellectual Property Attorneys

If you think your hashtag needs trademark protection, you should know a little more about hashtags. Trademark lawyer Alex Sluzas of Philadelphia explains.

…in 2010, only seven companies applied for trademark hashtags but in 2016, there were around 2,200 applications. This number is surely going to increase in the coming years.”

— Alex R. Sluzas, Esq.

PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, UNITED STATES, May 31, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — Today, marketing and promotion of a business or a service are considered incomplete and futile without social media. The concept of going ‘viral’ is helping products and businesses catapult their band to newer heights in a short amount time.

Trends in social media and marketing, in general, are constantly changing but one concept that is going to be vital for a long time is the hashtag. In fact, the hashtag concept is so popular that you will find it even on offline messages now, just to emphasize a point.

If you think your hashtag needs trademark protection, then you should consult a trademark lawyer. Before you go ahead and file a trademark, you should know a little more about hashtags, about what can be registered and what can't.

Hashtags and their registration

A hashtag is referred to a phrase or a single word that is preceded by a symbol of hash #, also known as the pound sign. For example, a hair color brand may use #impressivebrown hair to promote their product.

Some hashtags are common and can be used by everyone, individuals or businesses. It could be #enjoyyourlife, #lovemyhair, etc. But there are some phrases that are unique to a certain brand, examples are the ones with the tagline of popular brands.

It was when taglines for brands started catching on, companies started registering unique hashtags that identified their brand value. The registration of hashtags is a relatively new phenomenon.

According to a study by Thomson Reuters CompuMark, now known as Clarivate Analytics, in 2010, only seven companies applied for trademark hashtags but in 2016, there were around 2,200 applications. This number is surely going to increase in the coming years.

Hashtags recognized as trademark-specific

So, the question is: can you trademark a hashtag? The USPTO or the United States Patent and Trademark Office identifies registerable hashtags as those which are unique to certain businesses or brands. That means hashtags that individualize a particular business can be registered. Some of the examples of registered hashtags are of the Coca-Cola ( #smilewithacoke ), Nike ( #makeitcount ), etc.

In the recent years, the USPTO has allowed around 100 hashtag registrations, some of which are, #THESELFIE for products and services related to photography and videography, #STEAKWORTHY for restaurant businesses and #LIKEAGIRL related to information and stories on women empowerment.

Hashtags refused as trademarks

A hashtag in itself is not a trademark symbol but it is worthy of protection only when it identifies the source or the company it denotes. Thus, USPTO refused to recognize many descriptive phrases with hashtags.

Thus, hashtag registration also functions as conventional trademark recognition. The ones that identify its creator are trademark-specific hashtags and ones that are vague or common phrases are not trademarks.

Steps brands should take regarding hashtag registration

Brands should take steps to protect their business on the internet, especially social media. The first step is to register words or phrases that they have been using as their tagline or identifier without the hashtags.

For instance, if you deal with wrist watches, and if your popular tagline is, ‘Now is your time’, then you should register the phrase first. Businesses also need to use hashtags that do not include their brand name or the main brand.

Also, you should be careful in using certain hashtags that are easily identifiable with a certain company, because it may lead to copyright infringement. A trademark attorney can help you find ways to protect your hashtags and the best possible way forward.

Since hashtag creation is also included as intellectual property, an intellectual property lawyer can be of great help. It is also now necessary to include relevant clauses that caution against using your unique hashtags in your license agreement, settlement agreements, etc.

Therefore, it's necessary that you take steps to protect your brand and your business on social media platforms. An intellectual property lawyer can help you in identifying the right hashtags that require registration and can also guide you in using relevant and non-controversial hashtags that do not infringe on any other’s rights.

If you have any doubts or questions regarding hashtag trademark registration, then you should contact a Philadelphia trademark attorney at 866-975-7231.

Law Firm Marketing Company Taking Results by Storm With These SEO Secrets

Law Firm Marketing Agency

By now, many people know what SEO is and how vital is it to a company's internet visibility. Our law firm marketing expert Mary Ann Fasanella weighs in.

No matter the size of your firm, we will find ways to save you money and build your client book. We offer free consultations to discuss your position in the market and how it can be greatly improved.”

— Mary Ann Fasanella, CEO

PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, UNITED STATES, May 31, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — When it comes to marketing, there’s no such thing as planning too far ahead. The budget has been approved and the results of the previous year are in. Now is the time to retool your SEO marketing. By everyone knows what SEO is and how vital it is to a company’s visibility on the Internet. It’s part of your business and has the power to get you ahead of your competitors. And as technology changes, so do the rules for SEO.

Google is the boss when it comes to creating signals for ranking. It has things it likes (e.g., NAP on every page) and things it doesn’t (e.g., keyword stuffing). Yet, there are things we can do to improve SEO. And to start off the new year right, let’s use some new SEO practices.

Actionable SEO Methods for your Firm

Content marketing and SEO go hand in hand. There are areas to look at when trying to improve your website’s ranking.

1. Load Time – The faster a page loads, the longer a visitor will stay. Per Google, mobile page speed will be a ranking factor starting July 2018. For example, thirty seconds for a page to load is considered slow. Ensuring a faster load will take some technical skills such as:
  a. Reducing the HTTP calls by merging CSS and JavaScript files.
  b. Compressing images.
  c. Implementing browser caching and Grip compression.
  d. Minifying CSS and JavaScript files.

This next tip has to do with branding. Do you have a personal brand for your law firm? This is more than just having an eye-catching logo; it’s about being recognized, which means getting your name out there and proving you are an authority in your practice areas, achieved by blog posts usually.

2. Link Building – To build a link, you have to work at it. You shouldn’t just contact someone out of the blue and ask if you can link to his or her website. This is like sending an invite on LinkedIn to someone who is a 10th or higher connection. The person does not know you and will ignore the invite. To efficiently build links, you’ll need to build relationships first. This means gaining people's’ trust. This can be done by:
  a. Creating profiles on social media networks that are appropriate for your firm.
  b. Consistently sharing content from other lawyers or law professionals along with your insight.
  c. Engaging with your audience – Respond back to those who left a review, commented on your Tweet, shared your infographic … etc.
  d. Consistently publishing content on your website (i.e. blog) and in publications. This will present you as an authority in your field. It doesn’t hurt to republish or update an older blog.

3. Schema – This is HTML code that you add to keywords and phrases to help Google’s bots tag and categorize them. The tags let Google (and other search engines) know that they are related to the legal profession and your law firm. You can attach the schema to emails, contact information, reviews, images and more.

4. Organization – This is very important to not only visitors but for SEO as part of your law firm marketing plan. People find content on your website page (aside from keywords) as part of its organization. For example, you should have a page for each attorney and practice area. The more pages you have, the more opportunities for keyword searches.

5. SEO Paragraphs – You already have a blog on your website, which should be at least 600 words. But what about the descriptions of your images and video? Instead of just a few words (e.g., alt tags), you should write small paragraphs to describe each image and video. The paragraphs should be at least 200 words. Google uses the descriptions to categorize the images and videos. And you’ll rank for your target keywords.

6. Create Keywords – In addition to using SEO tools to create your target keywords, you can create your own. This is beneficial when you write about a brand (your law firm), process or technique you created and name it. Since they are unique, they will always rank #1.

The Tip of the SEO Iceberg

These are just some ideas from our SEO experts. At Advisory Concept Evolvers, we have a full arsenal of digital marketing tools to help your law firm get the recognition it deserves. Ten years ago, having a website wasn’t mandatory as it is today. In the past five years, SEO has become a key part of web content as well as content on social media networks.

Ken Sutiak Explains Why Recycling is Important

Ken Sutiak dedicates his life to making the world a better place and this is how you can help.

SARASOTA, FLORIDA, UNITED STATES, May 31, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — Ken Sutiak loves to help create better situations for the world he finds himself in. Whether he is helping animals, his community, or the environment, Sutiak takes his responsibility seriously.

Starting off as a Human Resource Assistant at NJ Transit, Sutiak spent his free time with the local 4H Club. Living in Clifton, New Jersey, Sutiak didn’t have much time to himself. However, the time he did have was spent helping animals. It made him feel good to be able to do such a selfless act.

Sadly, when Ken Sutiak’s mother was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease Sutiak moved back to his hometown of Totowa, New Jersey. Even though he left behind a life he loved in Clifton, helping his mother was the most important thing to him.

However, even throughout taking care of his mother, Sutiak found the time to help others in his community.

Now, Ken Sutiak is an advocate for recycling, because it affects everything that Sutiak’s efforts work tirelessly to overcome.

Animals

For years, Sutiak has worked with The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).

Sutiak has worked his way up from writing letters that would garner the attention of the decision-makers and editors. Currently, he speaks with those decision makers, advocating for animal rights.

According to Endangered Species International, globally humans use more than 260 million tons of plastic each year. Unfortunately, a lot of that ends up in a landfill. Since plastic isn’t biodegradable, it fills up those waste sites, contributing to an ever-growing problem.

However, waste consuming our landfills isn’t the only thing that a lack of recycling makes dangerous. It is also killing animals.

The longer something sits in a landfill, the more of a possibility that it will be taken out of the landfill. Whether it is dumped or taken away by a force of nature, animals are getting into the plastic. Some are eating it, while others get stuck on it.

Fortunately, to stop the death toll of this horrific plastic plague, all people must do is recycle.

Community Involvement

Everyone wants to live in a place that is free of garbage and debris. No one wants to breathe in chemicals and greenhouse gases every time they take a breath.

However, by not recycling, people are destroying the communities they live in. Recycling Guide explains that besides the effects, not recycling is having on the present, we are extinguishing natural resources. No resources will remain, for future generations, eventually.

Besides working with the ASPCA, Ken Sutiak also spends his time helping to clean up communities.

Sutiak works with the youth during this endeavor, explaining the importance of recycling and encouraging them to make better choices. Sutiak believes that if he and the kids he works with lead by example, their actions will inspire others.

In summation, Ken Sutiak knows recycling is essential. He is an advocate for the animals, as well as the communities. Sutiak’s actions, especially through recycling, are fighting for the survival of the planet, both now and in the future.

Ontario Liberal’s Post Secondary Bias is Unfair – John Harris, President, Harris Institute

TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA, May 31, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — The Liberal government of Ontario treats private colleges unfairly while misleading the public about the performance of publicly funded colleges.

Full disclosure: I have operated a private college in Toronto for 29 years; served on Advisory Boards at Humber College for 7 years and Ryerson University for 4 years; was a Task Force member for 4 years for Dianne Cunningham (former Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities) and have established two unprecedented educational partnerships in the UK.

Private colleges have contributed to Ontario’s economy since 1871. There are currently over 500 regulated private colleges in Ontario delivering essential training in more than 900 programs. Graduates of private colleges save Ontario taxpayers over $1 billion a year in educational subsidies and the colleges pay more than $90 million in business and payroll taxes.

As a member of Minister Cunningham’s Task Force from 2001 to 2005, I urged the ministry to publish what I believe are the most valuable statistics for prospective post secondary students – ‘the percentage of graduates working in their field of study’. At that time the ministry published the percentage of graduates working in any field six months after graduating and included no disclaimer that they were not necessarily working in their field of study. This misled the public about the outcomes of all post secondary programs and the job market reality.

Now, 12 years later, the ministry has begun publishing the percentage of private college graduates ‘working in their field of study’. Private colleges pay Forum Research to assemble the statistics and the ministry publishes the results. This information will vastly improve the outcomes of the sector and will be extremely valuable for students choosing schools, programs and career paths in the future.

Recently published ministry statistics for the publicly funded colleges in Ontario still prominently feature the percentage of graduates working anywhere six months after graduating. Although Forum Research collects ‘field of study’ statistics for the community colleges, the ministry does not publish them. This information should be made public.

The government of Ontario also opposes ‘Post Graduate Work Permits’ for international graduates of private colleges but supports them for international graduates of publicly funded institutions. The C.D. Howe Institute states, “The potential pool of international students is limited because international students in private career colleges cannot obtain a work permit”. This is unfair and detrimental to Ontario’s economy.

As well as this inequitable treatment, the ministry punitively over-regulates private colleges with excessive and costly administrative requirements because of a small number of colleges that have failed. Examples are the mandatory requirement for Audited Financial Statements from all private colleges regardless of size and the ineligibility for claiming HST input tax credits, which is a direct cause of higher tuitions. On multiple occasions I have needed both the provincial Ombudsman and corporate attorneys to deal with unwarranted disruptive treatment by the ministry.

The ministry’s abrupt closure of Everest College in 2015 created unnecessary disruption for 3,000 students and faculty at a cost to Ontario taxpayers of $7.4M. There would have been no disruption and minimal cost if the ministry had simply prohibited the college from admitting new students and required it to complete the training of current students.

It is essential students; parents and taxpayers demand that Premier Kathleen Wynne and Minister Deborah Matthews treat both public and private post secondary schools equally. To express concerns about these issues contact:

Kathleen Wynne, Premier

Mitzie Hunter, Minister of Advanced Education and Skills Development (MAESD)

About Harris Institute

Harris Institute ranked best school of its kind for a 6th year in the ‘Media Arts Education Report’ and it is the only school outside the US in Billboard Magazine’s ‘Top 11 Schools’. It has the lowest ‘Student Loan Default Rates’ of any post secondary school in North America and is the only college that offers graduates full scholarships for university degrees.

The college has the highest percentage of award winning faculty of any school and its graduates have won or were nominated for 246 awards in the last two years. An unprecedented partnership with the University of the West of Scotland enables double Diploma graduates from Harris to also earn Master’s Degrees in a total of 32 months.

Through our workshop, attendees will develop a better understanding of technology's role in IT talent sourcing and how to utilize it to reap the largest rewards. "Technology exists to enable business growth," said Vijay Rajan, Principal Technology Director for Analysts. "And what we see today is a tremendous opportunity to rise, as an organization, to leverage our combined capabilities and deliver on initiatives that transform our communities, our clients and how we do business."

With the greater use of Managed Service Programs (MSP) and Vendor Management Software (VMS) to manage, engage, and source staff augmentation contractors, the pressure to manage costs, drive quality and maintain IT project delivery has become a greater challenge within IT and procurement organizations.

Our Workshop, "Bridging the Gap Between IT and Procurement: Managing Cost with the Right IT Talent Sourcing Strategy," is aimed at finding new and innovative strategies to do more with less.
