From Conservative Talk Radio to MS Now, Flippo Gets Blasted for Lying About Bronze Star For Valor
“And I could have sworn I heard the reverse lights beeping as it backed up over the copywriter. The copywriters are not running for office. David Flippo is.” – Conservative talk radio
After months of scandal and fraud, new reporting uncovered that Trump-backed David Flippo lied at least 15 times about receiving a Bronze Star “for Valor” — an award reserved solely for those who risked their lives in combat. From conservative talk radio to MS Now, people are sounding off about Flippo’s lies, enraged by his attempt to politically and financially gain off his lie. Even after confessing to lying about receiving this rare award for heroism, Flippo continues to dodge accountability.
See more below:
On the Airwaves and Radio:
KOLO: “A stunning revelation from the Washington Post today concerning Republican congressional candidate David Flippo”
KRXI: “The Washington Post reports the Nevada Republican congressional candidate, David Flippo, repeatedly falsely claimed the he earned a Bronze Star for valor”
KTVN: “There is no incumbent running for Nevada’s congressional district two which opens it up for some new faces and a lot of eyeballs on this race nationally as one that could flip this November”
KOH-AM: “And I could have sworn I heard the reverse lights beeping as it backed up over the copywriter copywriters not running for office. David Flippo is. It’d be like blaming the punter or the kicker in a football game. No, at the end of the day it’s the head coach sorry, yeah, punter probably shouldn’t have probably should have made a better choice there, but no, ultimately, head coach is responsible. It’s your team, Dave Flippo, this is your team.”
In Print:
Washington Post: “It’s pretty sad that this is a multiple-time thing,” Sterner said. “It shows a pattern of deception. It is someone trying to give an impression of their service that is not true.”
Military.com: “An Air Force veteran running for Congress has reportedly apologized after exaggerating his Bronze Star record.”
MS Now: “With Republican Rep. Mark Amodei retiring in Nevada, his party has rallied behind David Flippo as his successor. The outgoing incumbent, however, has said he will “absolutely not” support the GOP nominee.
“The guy is a fraud,” Amodei said this week, referring to Flippo. “I’m not having my last action walking out the door to hug a guy who I think is a fraud.””
Daily Beast: “However, when pressed on more recent fundraising emails containing the same misrepresentation, the candidate’s team accused the Post of “trying to fabricate a scandal.””
Daily Mail: “Republican candidate caught falsely claiming combat valor medal in startling ‘pattern of deception’”
Las Vegas Sun: “David Flippo, the Republican nominee in Nevada’s 2nd Congressional District, falsely claimed on multiple occasions in recent years that he received a Bronze Star “for valor,” a distinction reserved for combat heroism rather than meritorious service, The Washington Post reported today.”
Morning Flash: “This was an honest mistake that has been apologized for,” he said. Oh? And what about the dozen releases the campaign sent this year making the same false claim?”
And online:
Dan Merica @merica:
The retiring Republican congressman that Flippo is trying to replace, Mark Amodei, has yet to endorse Flippo and told me just now he will “absolutely not” back him.
“The guy is a fraud. … I’m not having my last action walking out the door to hug a guy who I think is a fraud.”
Jon Ralston @RalstonReports:
“The campaign did not take questions from reporters.”
I wonder why.
Let me explain the concept of a press conference….
Check out this thread from Piper: Flippo apologized and then the campaign had two vets who attacked the Post story and Flippo’s foe.
Is that panic I smell?
Jon Ralston @RalstonReports:
“A copywriter mixed up the two distinctions.”
This is a laughable explanation because in 12 news releases over a span of four months the same language was used in each one falsely awarding Flippo the Bronze Star with Valor. No one caught this “honest mistake” over all those releases?
Vote Vets @votevets:
David Flippo lied about receiving a Bronze Star for valor in countless fundraising emails and campaign ads. If he can’t be trusted when talking about his own military service, how can he be trusted to represent Nevada’s second district?
Jason Crow @JasonCrowCO
Real leaders don’t lie about their military record to score political points.
Lying about receiving a Bronze Star with valor is a slap in the face to veterans and military families.
Nevadans deserve better than
@DavidFlippoNV
Ruben Gallego @RubenGallego
Come on for 3 years he allowed people to believe that the he earned a Bronze Star Valor medal. He approved his campaign kick off video where they repeat the Stolen Valor lie. @DavidFlippoNV is a fraud. Nevada beware of this stolen valor fraud.
Nevada Firearms PAC @NVFirearmsPAC:
This is a very disturbing story of Stolen Valor…
Don Winslow @donwinslow
Dear Nevada…
Wake up and learn the truth about David Flippo BEFORE you vote.
Do your own investigation.
Nevada State AFL-CIO @NVAFLCIO:
You know Flippo is a bad choice when the PERSON HE’S TRYING TO REPLACE WON’T BACK HIM BECAUSE HE’S A FRAUD!
