New Online Series from Alex Cubis and Joel Nix Speaks To the Current Climate Around Masculinity

Poster for “Masculinity in Crisis” starring Alex Cubis

Director Joel Nix and actor Alex Cubis release the trailer for new video series, "Masculinity in Crisis," produced using HitREcord.

LOS ANGELES, CA, UNITED STATES, November 29, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ — Alex Cubis and Joel Nix announced the launch of their project via Medium and Vimeo. The series, comprised of three-parts exploring concerns and themes around masculinity as drawn from one millennial’s perspective, is available to stream via a private link.

Writer and actor Alex Cubis explains “I was encountering a running theme over the past few months that either men are too toxic, or too soft – there’s like a crisis of masculinity. I thought that I’d selectively emphasise thoughts from my own life and channel it into some storytelling, but hopefully make it universally resonant in the process and trigger interesting conversation.”

“Masculinity in Crisis” is currently screening at festivals, but viewers can preview the series online by including the hashtag masculinityincrisis in a post on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter and tagging Joel (@nixfilm) and Alex (@alexjcubis). Their team will then send the user a private link.

More information about the project is found on the series’ website: www.masculinityincrisis.com
Cubis explains that HitREcord, the online collaborative production company founded and owned by actor and director Joseph Gordon-Levitt, offered the opportunity to “make the project interactive, so that it wasn’t just isolated to its running time.”

Oklahoma native and LA-based Joel Nix has previously directed music videos and commercials, and has extensive experience in physical production including most recently on Netflix’s “Santa Clarita Diet,” the FX shows “Baskets” with Zach Galifianakis and “Legion” with Aubrey Plaza. He is father to 1-year old Zeke and husband to wife Ali.

In the long-run, Joel shares a desire to tell stories “aim to inspire audiences to live their lives for the better.” Nix, 27, is currently developing a short film project in the pursuit of making a feature. The ultimate goal, he says, would be to “direct projects of the same calibre as ‘Game of Thrones.’ A show or film that’s equally entertaining and thought-provoking, using both bad and good characters to make an audience think about how to live their lives in a better way. Also, there’s no denying big-budgets are fun.”

Australian actor Alex Cubis has worked in television, film and theatre in Australia, including on “Atomic Kingdom,” “Public Offence,” “Mako Mermaids” and “Paradise Island Club,” and produced and starred in Show Offs which screened at the Cannés Court Metrage. In the US, Cubis has created and acted in content and for ‘Funny or Die’, and will next make an appearance on season 2 of Netflix’s “Dear White People.” He says his ultimate goal is to “work with Aaron Sorkin.”

Nix explains his hopes for the series.

“We hope that our project – even as small as it is – encourages men to have an honest and pragmatic conversation with themselves, amongst each other or with their significant other, about whether they’re their best selves.”

Design Indaba Festival and Conference 2018

Experience the world's leading creative currency that's driving design for a better world with Design Indaba's iconic annual conference.

CAPE TOWN, WESTERN CAPE, SOUTH AFRICA, November 29, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ — The Design Indaba conference and festival, taking place from 21-24 February 2018, is going beyond design to create a multi- sensory event where you can hear, see, learn and experience the future of creative thinking and design activism. Awarded as the Best Conference in the World, Design Indaba aims to make a positive impact on society by building a movement that attracts producers of meaningful culture and business, regardless of sector or industry.

The first three confirmed speakers of the substantial 2018 panel include celebrated and prolific spatial designer Morag Myerscough who most recently reimagined the interior of the Bernie Grant Arts Centre cafe in London. Dutch landscape architect Peter Veenstra, co-founder of LOLA Architects, created the Adidas Campus headquarters in Germany and is bringing his structural genius to the Design Indaba stage. The third confirmed speaker is Cannes Lions award-winning filmmaker Sunu Gonera who hails from Zimbabwe and whose work tells authentic African stories, as seen in the music video he created for Khuli Chana.

With three full days of engaging speakers, exhibitions and a film- and music festival, the 2018 conference is set to amaze, uplift and motivate delegates to find new ways in which to design a better world.

Taking place in conjunction with the world-renowned Design Indaba Conference, the annual Design Indaba Festival 2018 will run from 21 – 24 February 2018 at the Artscape Theatre Centre in Cape Town. An experiential wonderland of live music, films, Chefs Table dinners, performances and exhibitions, the Design Indaba Festival encompasses the Design Indaba’s longstanding annual Film Festival, Nightscape, and the Most Beautiful Object in South Africa, as well as the Emerging Creatives Programme. New to the festival in 2018 are pop-up restaurants featuring renowned Chefs and stand-alone performances by headline acts.

Festival passes are available to the general public – you don’t need to be a conference delegate to attend. An all-access, three-night pass allows festivalgoers to experience the full offering of creative excellence. Alternatively, a one-night ticket will allow you to catch a smaller selection of the amazing performing acts and progressive installations on offer.

Nightscape will run from 22 – 24 February 2018 on the Artscape Piazza. Expect a wonderland of curated gourmet street food, DJs, VIP hospitality suites, installations, performers and music, creating an immersive experience in which you wouldn’t be surprised to find a Conference speaker taking the stage to perform a DJ set.

Not to mention crowd-pulling headline acts.

Emerging Creatives will showcase samples of their work from 21 – 24 February 2018 within the Artscape. The Emerging Creatives Programme excels in supporting the next generation of creative talents and provides young designers with a much-needed launch platform.

The Most Beautiful Object in South Africa showcase gives the nation a chance to express what constitutes beauty. While some may consider beauty an aspect of taste and others know it on sight, beauty becomes far more profound than a visual sensation when design attributes such as social significance, economic impact, usability, sustainability and even humour are thrown into the mix. The Most Beautiful Object in South Africa showcase runs from 21 – 24 February 2018 at the Artscape.

The Design Indaba Film Festival will run from 22 – 24 February 2018 and screenings take place in the Artscape Arena during the evenings. There will be a selection of films on offer, with two screenings per night, at 18h00 and 20h30. The ticket price per film is R85.

The films are not limited by genre, format or theme. Simply expect a refreshing, globally relevant foray into film that’s leading the way in creativity, from documentaries about various creative disciplines and figures, to quirky and artistic creative expressions making their African debut. Admission to both the Most Beautiful Object in South Africa and Emerging Creatives are included in the Nightscape, Film Festival and conference tickets and will give attendees a view into the future of creativity in South Africa and across the continent.

Hammer Stahl Introduces New Titanium-Enhanced Stainless Steel American Clad Cookware

The cookware's interior layer of 316Ti steel makes it among the most corrosive resistant, durable, clean and inert surface available

CLARKSVILLE, TN, UNITED STATES, November 29, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ — Hammer Stahl proudly introduces its new 7-ply 316Ti titanium-enhanced stainless steel – among the most corrosive resistant, durable, clean and inert cooking surfaces on the market – available to consumers at traditional retail. This surface helps ensure that food retains its natural, authentic flavors plus it protects against pitting and corrosion, extending the life of the cookware.

Crafted in Tennessee, American Clad cookware is the product of a proud 150-year history of small batch, high-quality stainless steel cookware manufacturing in the U.S.

Exceptional Cooking Surface, Exceptional Value
Hammer Stahl, unlike other cookware manufacturers, has chosen to upgrade its entire line of American Clad cookware to the more highly-prized 316Ti interior surface from the traditional 304SS. "Although this is a more expensive material, we are dedicated to providing the absolute best product to our customers – with no increased cost to the consumer – creating an exceptional value," says Bobby Griggs, Vice President. "Throughout our history, we've always endeavored to deliver the highest quality cookware at an affordable price. This is just the next step in that process."

The 7-ply construction makes no compromises in design or materials, creating the best-in-class multiclad product. It combines the heat efficiency of aluminum with the inert character of 316Ti steel creating outstanding performance. It resists corrosion and pitting from cooking salty or acidic foods so the cookware is extremely durable and will effectively last a lifetime. The surface is easy to clean and allows for safe food storage directly in the cookware. Hammer Stahl’s 7-ply uniformed body construction ensures even and efficient cooking and the cookware can go from oven to table to fridge to dishwasher. Unlike most cookware, Hammer Stahl uses a 300 stainless steel exterior to ensure greater durability and a lasting shine. It will look beautiful for decades and will cook flawlessly on any cooktop, including induction.

Clean, Authentic Flavors
Different cookware options will chemically interact with food in different ways, affecting the nutrition and the flavor of your meals. A cooking surface with 316Ti stainless steel helps to eliminate chemical reaction with food, producing food with a clean, genuine flavor.

"With an increasing awareness of how we prepare our foods, and how what we use can affect taste and health, we feel American Clad is a great solution for those looking for cleaner, more consistent methods of cooking," adds Griggs.

American Made, American Innovation
The company has a long history of manufacturing fine cookware to the highest standards. Hammer Stahl, a brand of New Era, Inc., is one of the oldest manufacturers of cookware in North America, dating back to 1874. American Clad cookware is produced by a team of expert craftspeople in Clarksville, TN, and is made to last a lifetime – and can be passed on to the next generation.

"The heartbeat of the entire home is in the kitchen. People tend to spend a tremendous amount of money on kitchen cabinetry and countertops, but at the end of the day, what really transforms our food is using the right tools with the right ingredients to create the best results," says Griggs. "That's why Hammer Stahl continues to invest in technology and materials that truly enhance performance and value for our customers." For more information, visit www.hammerstahl.com.

National Research Council (NRC) Canada Finds Atmospheric Plasma Coating Removal Effective in Study

Atmospheric Plasma Solutions PlasmaBlast System

Recent studies determine that the new Atmospheric Plasma coating removal process does not affect metallic substrates used in military aircraft.

CARY, NC, UNITED STATES, November 29, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ — Atmospheric Plasma Solutions™ (APS) today announced that recent studies conducted by the National Research Council (NRC) Canada concluded that the novel Atmospheric Plasma Coating Removal (APCR) system may provide a safe and effective alternative to current paint removal methods such as chemical stripping and abrasive media blasting.

A presentation entitled Atmospheric Plasma Depainting – an Alternative Paint Stripping Process for Military Applications was given by the NRC in the NATO Science & Technology Organization Applied Vehicle Technology (AVT-302) research workshop on Paint Removal Technologies for Military Vehicles in October 2017 in Utrecht, The Netherlands. The results presented indicated that APCR had no negative ramifications on detecting fatigue cracks in the substrates, and did not alter the heat treatment or fatigue life properties after 5 (five) simulated paint and strip cycles of the aerospace alloys studied. The study concluded that the APCR process offers an alternative to the current, potentially more hazardous and less environmentally friendly paint removal methods.

The materials used in the investigation were 3003-H14 aluminum and SAE 1008 steel, as well as large panels of heat-treatable aerospace aluminum alloys 2024-T3 and 7075-T6. They were prepared with coatings of paint and primer according to aerospace painting protocols. Each coupon was coated with yellow epoxy-polyamide (MIL-PRF-23377) primer with a thickness range of 45 – 80 µm and a grey polyurethane coating (MIL-PRF-85285D) topcoat with a thickness range of 30 – 50 µm. For the large panels of 2024-T3 and 7075-T6, fatigue cracks were introduced to investigate the effects of the paint removal process on crack detectability by LPI.

APS is launching the first commercially available APCR system named PlasmaBlast, which quickly and safely removes hard-to-remove protective coatings and sealants. Using an air plasma beam, the PlasmaBlast precision coating removal system can reliably remove coatings from virtually any substrate material. The PlasmaBlast system vaporizes most paint and coatings into harmless gases and leaves behind a small amount of dust that is safely collected with a vacuum. Unlike traditional coating removal methods, PlasmaBlast doesn’t use abrasive media or chemicals, reducing the need for containment and the disposal of waste by-products. The system can significantly reduce the cost of the coating removal process, while increasing the productivity and safety for workers.

"The results of the NRC studies are encouraging for the Atmospheric Plasma coating removal process and support further development for the technology's emergence into industrial applications," said Peter Yancey, Chief Technology Officer at Atmospheric Plasma Solutions.

A portable PlasmaBlast prototype system has been demonstrated in operational environments and is ready for production with a target availability in 2018. APS is seeking partners to help set final product requirements, develop use scenarios and perform operational tests and evaluations using the system under operational mission conditions. To participate in the program, contact Glenn Astolfi at gastolfi@apsplasma.com.

About Atmospheric Plasma Solutions

Atmospheric Plasma Solutions (APS) is developing the next generation of coating removal solutions for hard-to-remove coatings found in marine, aviation, defense and commercial applications. For the past 10 years, APS has perfected the delivery of plasma at atmospheric pressures using only compressed air and electricity. The atmospheric plasma coating removal (APCR) process converts most protective coatings and sealants into harmless gases that are safely vacuumed away. The company’s flagship PlasmaBlast™ precision coating removal system reduces job costs, provides a safer work environment and is more environmentally friendly than traditional chemical stripping, media blasting or water jetting methods. Steven Tanenbaum of A Wish Come True to be Featured on CUTV News Radio

BRISTOL, PENNSYLVANIA, UNITED STATES, November 29, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ — In 1982, Steve Tanenbaum worked on the Hollywood production set of the iconic music video for Michael Jackson’s #1 Hit, “Billie Jean.” Between takes, he marveled as Jackson tried out a brand-new dance move (“The MoonWalk”), which he would debut two months later on Motown’s 25th Anniversary TV Special.

Though Tanenbaum would soon go on to achieve remarkable success in commercial real estate in the eastern U.S., his career has now come full circle. Today, Tanenbaum is the Managing Partner and CEO of A Wish Come True, the country’s foremost manufacturer of dance costumes.

A Wish Come True designs, manufactures, markets, provides consulting services, sells, distributes and ships high-quality, pre-designed, as well as custom-made costumes and dance accessories for virtually every genre of dance taught in dance schools, community centers, public and private high schools and universities in the U.S. and virtually anywhere else in the world.

“When I bought this business in 2005, people had barely talked about, let alone promoted ‘The U.S. Dance Industry’ in many years,” says Tanenbaum. “But, in part based on research, as well as instinct, I had this sense that in the U.S., Dance was an iconic element of our culture. Even in a recession, what mom or dad is going to take dance classes away from their daughter? It's her favorite thing. They get to see her perform on stage, under the bright lights, and nothing could possibly replace that. Therefore, A Wish Come True should be fairly recession-proof, as long as we did a good job.”

Today, A Wish Come True is considered the highest quality, most fashion-forward and creative manufacturer of dance
costumes in the U.S. When "Dancing with the Stars" took off, so did A Wish Come True.

A Wish Come True does not have a retail outlet or a factory-direct Web site to sell their costumes; they only sell directly to dance schools, and there are thousands of dance schools across the United States.

“It's really nice being in a business where you have the unique opportunity, let alone the daily capability, to make people happy!” says Tanenbaum. “The greatest single reason for the success of this company is that from the top to the bottom of our organization, our executive staff, our creative and production teams, our sales and customer service teams are motivated and driven to be the best by imagining 'that little girl,' our customer, dancing on that stage for her family to see. The people who work for us absolutely see and feel this: 'You are here to make someone's child happy!' Isn't that worth putting extra care, consideration, attention and effort into? Wouldn’t you want someone doing that for your child?”

CUTV News Radio will feature Steven Tanenbaum in an interview with Doug Llewelyn on December 1st at 2pm EST, with a second, in-depth interview and discussion on December 6th at 1pm EST.

Terriyln Rivers-Cannon of K.A.T.I.E. to be Featured on CUTV News Radio

An eagle can soar to endless heights as long as it keeps moving forward. That's what I want to instill in others.”

— Terriyln Rivers-Cannon

SNELLVILLE, GEORGIA, UNITED STATES, November 29, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ — Terriyln Rivers-Cannon is a school social worker and the founder of K.A.T.I.E., an organization dedicated to providing outreach services to empower young people from middle school to college. K.A.T.I.E. stands for “Karing Actions Towards Inspiring Eagles.”

“Just because you can't see those stars in front of you doesn't mean that you can't continue to reach for those stars,” says Rivers-Cannon. “An eagle can soar to endless heights as long as it keeps moving forward. That's what I want to instill in others.”

Rivers-Cannon was inspired to establish K.A.T.I.E. by her Aunt Katie Mae Tindal, who was also a social worker.

“My Auntie Katie inspired me to be better to do better and inspired others to do the very same, says Rivers-Cannon. “I saw how much her students respected her and the work that she did with helping individuals. Too often I see young people who feel as though they can’t. I’m a living testament that, yes you can do it. It can be accomplished. You just have to stay your path and be determined and surround yourself with persons who inspire and encourage you."

Rivers-Cannon says her eagles from all different avenues. Some may be in a homeless situation. Some may come from abusive families. No matter their circumstances, the goal is for them to strive to do something better by believing in themselves.

“It is my mission to provide individualized and personalized sessions with anyone who seeks my assistance, all while promising to give them my full attention”, say Rivers-Cannon. "When you listen with empathy, sympathy and respect, individuals are more likely to share their stories and be receptive to change."

In addition to her work with K.A.T.I.E., Rivers-Cannon is president of the School Social Workers Association of Georgia. She says one of her goals is to offer scholarships for teen moms who would like to go to college in the area of social work.

“Social work is my passion, my love, and it was my aunt's passion and love, too,” says Rivers-Cannon. “I take it as a blessing. I'm humbled by it and even more humbled to see the impact I've had on these children's futures.”

CUTV News Radio will feature Terriyln Rivers-Cannon in an interview with Doug Llewelyn on December 1st at 12pm EST.
