Hosted within Station Houston, the XR Showdown™ involves college students creating VR/AR/MR simulations and games for enterprise use, followed by a review by potential employers — all featured in a livestream TV show with presenting sponsor, ExxonMobil.    

Throughout the six-week long showdown, selected students from various universities including the University of Houston, The Art Institute of Houston, Houston Community College, and more, will be creating simulations and video games to assist in enterprise marketing, education, research or training efforts.

A livestream TV show about the creation process will be broadcast on YouTube, Twitch, and Facebook each Friday from 7:00-9:00 PM central time throughout the event. After the event, the show will be released on Amazon Prime video. Improv comedian host, Scott Gibbs, is joined by audience hostess, Ink Rose (Art Institute of Houston student and YouTube Creator with over 100,000 subscribers). The live online audience will be able to rate and review the students and involve themselves with in-show participation moments. At the end of the month-long internship, each student team will showcase their sponsored project to their team sponsor in the hope that they land a job at the finale event on Friday, March 13th from 7:00-09:00 PM. 

Why mix an internship focused on VR/AR/MR simulation and video game development with a livestream show?

The collective goal of the event is to see digital media and technology students find work doing what they love best — creating solutions to problems using innovative means.

“I felt a calling to do something worthwhile, and the definition of worthwhile was something that benefits people,” says Muftic. “That’s been my guiding light.”

Muftic is an expert in consumer affairs and community relations. She started out as a debater in high school and college with a knowledge of the issues that affect us every day. She later developed an interest in consumer affairs, with a parallel interest in politics and world affairs.

“Having gone to school in the Chicago area and lived and worked in New York City, I‘ve always been interested in low-income financial struggles,” recalls Muftic.

Moving to Denver, Muftic led a group of women in a grocery price survey that revealed the poor paid more.

Muftic was appointed head of the district attorney's consumer affairs office charged with prosecuting consumer fraud and white-collar crimes. For seven years, Muftic served in this office, leading a group of investigators and complaint handlers.

“I was often at the state legislature lobbying on behalf of consumer interests,” recalls Muftic. “We inspired the Better Business Bureau to be less business-oriented and more consumer-oriented. It was action media followed closely.”

After leaving the district attorney’s office, Muftic resolved to do something in 1979 that no woman had ever done before: run for mayor of Denver.

“I did it because I used to beat the boys in debate,” laughs Muftic. “I had a lot of confidence and an active track record in city government and law enforcement. I really had my hands in a lot of local politics, and I thought I probably know more about this city than anybody.”

Muftic eventually lost the election to incumbent Bill McNichols, she remains a trailblazer to this day. Though Denver has yet to elect a woman as its mayor, women have increased their presence in other elected offices, including the city council.

Before Federico Peña served as President Clinton's secretary of transportation and secretary of energy, he was mayor of Denver, where Muftic served in his administration as cabinet and staff and as an election commissioner.. Meanwhile, her husband served on the Democratic National Committee, giving Muftic insight into national and international politics.

Muftic has authored a handbook for consumers seeking solutions, led an urban planning activist organization to propose consumer friendly affordable mass transportation, and was one of Denver’s first woman radio talk show hosts. Her focus was consumer affairs.

She has continued her advocacy on behalf of consumers and lobbying for consumer-friendly public policy as an executive with a credit counseling agency, supporting ethics in business as a consultant, and is currently a newspaper columnist and blogger.

Pioneering Educator Dr. Robert Haynes to be Featured on CUTV News Radio

BOWLING GREEN, KENTUCKY, UNITED STATES, August 20, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — In 1967, Dr. Robert Haynes was asked to teach the first class about African American history at the recently-integrated University of Houston. Over the next three decades, he would help design the blueprint for African-American studies programs at universities across the country.

“The students had demanded it but there was some apprehension on the part of the administration. I knew the fact that I was from Mississippi would ring alarm bells and I was correct,” recalls Dr. Haynes. “These students were busy reading The Autobiography of Malcolm X, and I was reading the standard textbook on black history by John Hope Franklin. We had a lot of discussions and disagreements, but by the time the semester was over, they came around to accepting me. One student even said, ‘For a white man, you taught a decent class.’”

Dr. Haynes taught during some of the most incendiary events of the last half-century. He recalls vividly the discussion in class the day Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated.

“Of course, that was a difficult moment. We dismissed class for the day and we talked about it,” says Dr. Haynes. “Racial and religious prejudice is just so deep-seated, it's hard to engage with it in a way that changes people’s hearts.”

Dr. Haynes retired from his work as professor emeritus with Western Kentucky University in 2010. Though a pioneer in the field of black studies, Dr. Haynes says he didn't think of myself as such. Still, he says the experience changed him profoundly.

“I grew up holding the prejudicial views of Mississippi, but it changed me, no question,” recalls Dr. Haynes. “I became an advocate for civil rights. You just have to live in the world as you see it. And all of a sudden I lived in a different world. I even agreed to offer a course at church on Wednesday nights because I believed this country had a terrible problem, and it still has a terrible problem. We've made some progress, but we've got a long way to go.”

When asked what changed his views on race, Dr. Haynes’ answer was simple: “Studying the history.”
